Fairytale Shoot with Ysa

Photography

There was a time when I was OBSESSED with Irene Rudynk’s work. Her photos are truly magical. It inspired me to organize a fairytale shoot. I went through all the thrift stores around Fuente Osmena, Cebu. After 2 days of searching, I finally found a pink dress worth P200.00 and a bodice worth P80.00. I made a few alterations with the dress.

I love how the photos turned out. It also helped that my model was absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I’m not that good yet but I enjoyed taking these. ❤ It taught me that you don’t need to spend a lot of money to do a themed photoshoot. Here are more photos below. Enjoy!

5 Steps on How to Plan your First Funshoot

Photography

Disclaimer: I am in NO WAY a Professional photographer.

If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, then I’m sure you all know by now that I LOVE TAKING PICTURES. I started out with taking photos of flowers and landscape, which evolved into taking photos of soccer matches and motocross races. It was only in late 2016 that I got into Portrait photography.

Portrait photography is another ball game. You actually have to interact with your subject to take a good photo. My first photoshoot, I remember, was nerve-wracking. I was LOST.

So, if you are new to photography and are planning to do a photoshoot, here are my top 5 tips on how to plan your first photoshoot.

  1. Choose a theme.

My father used to tell me, Don’t go off to war without bringing your gun. Most would interpret this as to no go to a photoshoot without your camera. To me, however, it means to not go to a photoshoot if you don’t know what you’re shooting! It makes sense right? You can have all the expensive gear and beautiful model, but without a theme, you don’t get a good photo. So before you start contacting models, make sure you have a theme. May it be fairytale, gothic, street or formal, KNOW YOUR THEME.

I was obsessed with the fairytale-vibe shoots because of Irene Rudynk.

2. Inspiration Board

Once you have a theme, you need an inspiration board. In my case, I use PINTEREST. I save the prettiest photos that I can find, or the kind of poses or styles that I want to incorporate in my shoot and save them in a folder. This helps you get the feel of the shoot and will inspire you to take exceptional photos!

3. Find your model

Now it’s time for you to search for your subject. By now you already have the kind of look in mind. There are several ways for you to find a model. You can use your friends.

Most of the funshoots that I’ve done are with my friends. I just message them on Facebook or Instagram.

If none of your friends fit your ‘LOOK’, then try searching for models around your area. Here’s where Facebook comes in handy. Try searching for photography groups in your area. When I was in Cebu, I joined a Facebook group filled with photographers and aspiring models. All I had to do was to ask if anyone wanted to do a shoot. Not only will this give you more choices, it will also allow you to meet new people!

Meet Maria and Ron. My 2 FAVORITE CEBU MODELS. ❤

4. Location. Location. Location.

This is very important. You have to find the perfect location to set the mood of your photoshoot. If you want to have a fairytale themed shoot, try shooting at a park. For street-style photoshoot, go to an urban setting. Finding the perfect location is CRUCIAL.

This is definitely one of my favorite photoshoots. It was Filipiniana themed and we took these photos in one of the oldest forts in the Philippines: Fort San Pedro which is in Cebu.

5. HAVE FUN

It’s called funshoot for a reason right? Encourage your models. Let them bring out the best in them. When your model is comfortable with you, it will definitely show in the photos.

Goodluck with your future photoshoots!!!

Café Talks

Photography

If you’re from Cebu then you’ve probably heard of the coffee shop, Café Talk. This post is not about that. I just suck at giving titles as you can probably tell if you’ve been reading my past posts. It was the first thing that I thought of when I saw the pictures.

One boring Sunday afternoon, one of my very best friends, Ara Mae and her cousin, Antet, decided to do a photoshoot. They were dressed so casually so I decided to cross one off my photoshoot bucketlist: COFFEE SHOP-THEMED PHOTOSHOOT.

So we went to Coffee Prince Cebu. They were kind enough to allow us to take some pictures there. We bought a coffee ( none of us were coffee drinkers. We just bought one for props. Yes, we are very EXTRA.)

Below are my favorite shots of the photoshoot.

Photoshoots with Guys

Photography

You may be wondering why most of my photoshoots are with girls. NO, it’s not because I’m a sexist. I just find shooting guys very difficult. I don’t know how to style them or how to make them pose.

I was extremely lucky that I met Ron Alivio. He was very professional. I enjoyed working with him! I didn’t need to tell him what to do. He knew what to do. He knew which poses worked for him. He knew how to use his clothes. He knew what he was doing. He was good and he knew it.

Below are the result of our collab!

Denim Jackets

Photography
If there’s one thing I know I love, that would have to Photography. Photography and Jackets. Ok, that’s two things that I love. Every time I go to a clothing store, I make a beeline towards the jackets. My mother keeps on telling me that I have too many jackets, and I tell her, “Nay, you can never have too many jackets.”
My favorite of them all is definitely my Denim Jacket. If it weren’t so hot here in the Philippines, I would wear them E-V-E-R-Y-D-A-Y!

I also use this jacket for my photoshoots!

Judging by the lack of creativity in the title and the shortness of this blog post, it is quite clear that I really have nothing to say about this look. I am not a fashion expert nor am I up to date with the recent trends. I’m posting this anyway because I am in love with the whole look! The leather jacket, the glasses, the white shirt… EVERYTHING!

It was such a joy for me to shoot Adgia. Everything about her exudes beauty and confidence. We had our photoshoot at our auto shop in Dumaguete City.

#FAILURE

failure

There was once an average girl who comes from a Chinoy family. She was neither talented nor was there anything that made her stand up from all the other girls. But she was obedient to her father. She occasionally fought with her mother, but her father was someone she would not dare disobey.

That was until she reached college. Despite her father’s constant reminders to not fall in love, she did. She fell in love again, and again, and again. Her father never noticed her though. He was too preoccupied with her brothers. So she continued disobeying and hiding things from her father.

It came to a point that she loved too much and got duped. She made a mistake and her parents found out, but still they took her in. Gave her another chance to redeem herself. She slowly got her life back together. But, as expected, her father became more strict. She was not allowed to go out and spend time with her friends. She usually stays at home or at their store.

As time passed by, she slowly got her freedom back. She couldn’t go out with her friends but they could visit her. Life became somewhat better.

That was until she failed yet again. This time, it was in the form of an exam. Yet again, she disappointed her father by failing a very important and expensive test. Her father hid his disappointment well. She only felt it when she was not allowed to spend time with friends or family again.

It was then that she realized that her father was ashamed of her. Ashamed of what she became. Ashamed of how she looked, what she became, and what she had not accomplished.

She sits in her room wondering if she would ever be more than her mistakes and failures. If she will ever redeem herself to her family. If she will ever get her life straight again.

This story may or may not be real. 🙂

Two Lover’s Point- GUAM

Photography, Travel

_MG_7729

One of the, if not the most, beautiful and famous sites in Guam is the Puntan Dos Amantes otherwise known as the TWO LOVER’S POINT. It is located in Northern Guam at a cliff area overlooking Tumon Bay.

Legend says that there was once two lovers who chose to be forever in death rather than be apart in life.

It all started when Spain governed over Guam. There was a very wealthy Spanish man who was married to the daughter of a Chamorro chieftain. They had a daughter who was said to be honest, modest and beautiful.

One day, the girl’s father decided to have her marry a Spanish captain. When she discovered this, she ran all the way to the northern part of Guam where she found a hidden and peaceful shore. It was there that she met and fell in love with a young Chamorro warrior. He was said to be muscular and had eyes that “search meaning in the stars”

However, the girl’s father did not approve of the two lovers.

Her father insisted that she marry the spanish captain right away. It was then thag she decided that she would run away and be with the one she truly loved.

When her father found out that she ran away, they pursued the two lovers upto the high cliff at Tumon Bay.

Trapped, the two lovers could do nothing but to stare at each other’s eyes and kiss. They then tied their long hair together and jumped down the cliff. The girl’s father and his soldiers could only watch in despair.

The story and the place itself was truly magical. The entrance to the top costs about  3USD. But it’s definitely worth it. The view is absolutely breathtaking.

To all the lovers, you can buy locks and leave your messages. It is said that those who do this will stay together forever. Who knows right?😉

If ever you go to Guam, be sure to visit this place. You will not regret it!
